This state is one of the best places in the U.S. to see wild horses, which are also called mustangs.

We mountain bike on a network of trails made by mustangs and burros. Although they are wild, they often let us get very close. Sometimes we see ten or twelve horses on just one ride.

The desert landscape is filled with cactus and sagebrush.

We see this coyote nearby.

Suprisingly, we are just 20 minutes from a city that is famous for bright lights and gambling.

We spend a week here giving slide programs. During our days off we camp outside of town, enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Our favorite activity here is climbing in Red Rock park on the enormous sandstone walls, just a short distance from the city.

Bruce takes this photo of Tass coming up the second pitch of a climb named Dark Shadows. We are about 300 feet off the ground.

We take a break from slide shows in southern California to spend four days rock climbing with friends. The National Park we are in is famous for this unusual plant. This plant is a type of yucca cactus, and can grow to 30 feet in height. The plant only grows in the higher elevations of the Mojave Desert. The name of the plant is also the name of the National Park. To see pictures of some of our cimbs, click on 2001 rock climbs.
